I have a samsung with 1.5.1 on it which was not done by me. However I want to update to 1.6.1 myself seen as LT touch might yet be some time.
Looking at James' tutorial on flashing a stock samsung, are there any further steps/adjustments necessary if the drive has already been flashed previously and thus is not a "stock" drive?

No its straight forward, follow JF tutorial >> http://jungleflasher.net/files/JungleFlasher.pdf and it will ask you if its a stock drive or flashed and then go from there
