I have a phat dg-16d2s that doesnt read disks. stock - newer flashed

What are my options? and what causes this problem? The only thing i tried to do was open it up, and clean off the lens. Its updated to the latest dash. It tried to read the disc, spins up and fails a few times before completely giving up.

Worst case scenario is ill just use it with my DLC. If XBL isnt possible, then a fix that would make my lose my XBL status, but allow me to read discs/backups, id prefer that option.

I dont have a connectivity kit (i think this drive needs it) to read the drive key, but if its cheap enough/easy enough ill go buy one. I also have a few drives that i can use to spoof. I know one is a Benq, i have 2 others but forgot what kind they are. I think one might be a lite-on as well if im not mistaken.

Any advice will be appreciated.

change the laser first one out of your spare benq/liteon and see if it works first

when you say "its not reading discs"
is it saying "disc unreadable" or "unsuported disc"?

How hard is replacing a laser? Is there a tutorial somewhere? and do those two use the same laser?

Doesnt say either. It just says "open tray" heres a video: Disc error - YouTube

open tray, means laser isn`t even detecting the disc
so yes the laser is busted,
it takes about 5 mins to swap a laser

will any of my drives lasers work? how hard is it? is there a chance ill screw it up? Is there a tut somewhere for this? Sorry for so many questions.

Awesome. Thanks. Will try when i get home. Now i just need to decide which to use as my main 360 for backups.

I have one Hitachi that has hdmi - so it's always the last with updates.

I have a Samsung that gets updates fairly quickly, but doesn't have hdmi.

And now i have this. How hard is this drive to flash the first time? And then to flash to stock and reflash, does it get easier.

I need to get rid of one of these. Which one should go.

as long as your carefull, you should be able to do it easy
the guide cola gave you is quite straght forward
if you have a multi meter you can also adjust the pots

took me 2 hours the first time double checking and getting things wrong and then right but 2nd time took 30 minutes just flashing

and now i can do all phat drives in around 15 minutes -take apart - flash to stock-update-flash - put xbox back together

my advice is keep all the xbox's especially the sammy though you could get a good price for it
