Burning Problems: So much misinformation! Please help

Postby DrNugu » Tue May 11, 2010 2:16 am

I'm wanting to burn a backup.

I've been researching for hours and am more confused now than before. Here's the conflicting info. I got:

1) Verbatim disks are leet! vs. Memorex are cheap...but give 'em a try cause they're cheap!
2) Set bit-type to DVD-ROM vs. Bah! No need to set bit type anymore!
3) Use only Lite-on or Pioneer drive vs. any recent drive ok.
4) Burn only at 2X vs. 2.4 vs 4 vs. MAX vs. ???

Is there any definitive recent guide to this? I just ordered a Sammy SH-S223L burner.

Thanks

DrNugu,

I know what you mean about conflicting information....

1) Verbatim are fine, but I also used Memorex with no problems as well (25 for £24 vs £15)

2) I've never done this, just use IMGBURN to burn the iso .dvd file created by ABGX

3) I have replaced a faulty Samsung MS28 with a BenQ (£20 of eBay A grade refurbished) and it seems great. Plus it's compatible with LT1.1 (1.7) and can be spoofed to Sammy etc.

4) I've burnt all mine at full speed (x8) with no issues what so ever.

I'm using an Optiarc burner, but I think there all much of a muchness...

These are just my experiences....

Cheers,

Jon.

Thanks for you response Jon. It's great to hear your success at 8x! I've been doing a little trial and error myself. Only one coaster so far! That was because I was using my 6-year-old, nearly burnt out DL DVD burner.

With the brand new Sammy drive I've been burning the cheaper Memorex (Ritek) disks at 4x with no problem. (Funny, it wouldn't let me burn below 4x).

I'm definitely going to give 8x a try. That's the Memorex max.

10 disks in and not a problem. They go straight to my 250GB HDD anyways. Long live Taiwan!

i used some cheap disc before like Fuji and Memorix. some disc won't read after 1 or 2yrs (no scratch), sometimes it won't even read with one tiny scratch. my 360 dvd-rom was Samsung TS (very old one)

so from now on I only use Verbatim
