I would return the adapter and get a new one.
Hey, I have a flashed lite-on xbox drive and I wanted to burn XGD3 discs so I purchased a lite-on iHas124-04 b dvd burner and I wanted to flash it with iXtreme Burner Max firmware. I did not know that it would not come with a sata power cord so I bought this one and used it with a molex power supply:
Amazon.com: Molex to SATA Power Adapter Cable, 6 inches: Computers & Accessories
I already had the x360usb pro to connect it to my toshiba satellite A305-S6872 running Windows 7 Ultimate. I used the x360usb pro to flash my lite-on drive that is in my xbox so that is not the problem - the x360usb pro drivers are installed. When I connected everything to my laptop it recognised it for a second and started to automatically install the driver software but then suddenly it said it failed and said the drive was disconnected. The drive will power up and spin a disc but even after disconnecting and connecting it will not show up in my computer. I looked online and found out some reasons for the drive not being recognised would be not getting enough power and something wrong in the registry. I followed the steps to delete that part of the registry but it still will not connect so I thought it might be the power supply. I inspected the molex side of the sata power adapter. One of the pins was loose so I carefully disconnected it from the white plastic piece. The wire that the pin is holding seemed out of place so I popped it back into place but the connection seems fine. Before I did this the drive would suddenly loose power when I moved the power adapter slightly. I am not sure if buying a new sata power adapter would help even though this one was brand new. If you have any suggestions PLEASE let me know! I would like to avoid buying a new one and having the same thing happen, although I cannot have the drive loose power while burning a disc or it will just be yet another coaster. I posted photos of the two black wires after I took off the white plastic part. Thanks!!
I would return the adapter and get a new one.
are you using a molex power supply that plugs in the wall or your usb?
I am using a molex power supply that plugs into the wall. I don't want to return it and get the same problem back though. Also I unhooked it from the white plastic part, I'm pretty sure I can put it back in but I hope that doesn't matter. I think I am just going to buy another one and return the first one after I get the new one. I'm just not sure whether or not to get the same one.
ok i just wanted to check to make sure you werent using the 5v molex to usb adapter as it will work for flashing but not burning
So what say you guys? Should I buy the same exact one from Amazon or should I buy one from somewhere else? I am of course returning the defective product but am not sure if I should get the same one. I understand that molex can be flimsy but I don't see this happening again. It is also cheap and has Amazon prime 2-day shipping.
i bought mine off amazon but i got one that was a 1 molex to 2 sata adapter and its worked great, same brand and everything but it does seem like they are hit or miss
like i said that works for me but they all had kind of iffy reviews, but for the price i figured might as well get the 1 to 2 just incase i ever need it
