Converting Internal Sata Drive to External

We all know C4eva is preparing to release the brand and model number of the dvd drive used to back up 100% XGD3 games. It's very likely that the drive will be an internal Sata Dvd Burner. Currently my PC used IDE (older pc) and doesn't have any available bays. I would like to convert the soon-to-be released drive to an external one. Obviously the connection would be a USB.

i know there's external enclosures that will convert the Sata Drive to USB and power the drive as well, but are there other means such as a connectivity kit without an enclosure?

Could i also use the X360usb pro and CK3 lite to handle the job too?

As of now, your best bet is to use an external enclosure. It's unlikely it will be able to run from the X360USB Pro unless it's specifically made to. A CK3 is insignificant since the drive will have a PC power connection already.

Nobody will know anything until he reveals the Make and Model.

There are also very inexpensive IDE to SATA and MOLEX to SATA power adapters available that you can use to replace your current burner with.
I'm only smart cause I did it every wrong way already.

If you followed a half-assed way to back up your XGD3 game disc, you deserve all the trouble you're getting.

best advice would be to get the sata to usb enclosure.

No, Blu, like me, has an engineering background, and is speaking from practical real-world experience.

As do I. Do you have engineering degrees? Would you like to see a redacted printout of my academic records to prove my master's degree is in computer engineering? How in the world can you declare that you're more 'engineery' than anyone else on the Internet? Again, if I were a betting man, I would bet you couldn't prove your engineering background (as defined by ABET). Maybe you can email from your IEEE.org or ACM.org email addresses. I will write you back.

My point is that even engineers can't decide what C4 wants to call this creation. No matter how you slice it, he is working on CUSTOM FIRMWARE that will allow a drive to perform outside of its intended design. This is what his firmware will do... and its very much custom. Until we know what he is going to call it, CFW is more than suffice to describe it.

Go ahead and invite everyone to grab SATA-to-USB enclosures. Whether or not they'll be able to write a custom firmware to the burner inside by addressing the "Generic External USB Device" is very much up in the air, though.

Are you always this irritatingly serious? You really need to lighten up.

I personally don't have DVD drives in USB enclosures, but I do have a few hard drives in USB enclosures. This is what one of them shows up as in Device Properties.

How odd that it's name kind of resembles that actual Hitachi drive model inside the enclosure. What's even more unusual is that my other USB drives do the same thing.

I'm quite capable of not being serious. If you were joking or not being serious, my bad. I did not say that every enclosure had absolutely zero chance of working... I just said that advising people to go out and buy hardware that is not guaranteed to work is probably a bad idea. We're talking about enclosures that cost roughly 15 bucks. Not a huge deal for some, but might be for those complaining about spending 25 on a new drive.

So I'll put the CFW argument down, but I'm just not sure why people are recommending others to buy USB enclosures before they have all the facts.

I only answered what was most likely best for what options he presented. I also offered another solution that he might not be aware of. But, nobody is suggesting to go out right now and get it.
