Unfortunately, you can't simply just swap drives, as I think the motherboard on the xbox has a key embedded within it that "knows" its own drive brand and model number.
Option 1 would be the safest.
Hey, I modded my Xbox last Monday, apparently not realizing all the chatter bout the ban wave. I have not been banned yet *knock on wood* but played some MW2 at launch last night, and have been playing games over the past week. I have a Liteon with the latest firmware.
I have a few options, ranging in costs. Option 1: Grab another Xbox with MW2 to play online while the ban wave thing dies down? Then keep my modded one for playing backups offline? Cost: $160
Option 2: I kept my original Hitachi non-modded drive, should I swap drives, and play a original copy of MW2 online and be safe? Cost: $60
Option 3: Say screw it, and continue to play MW2 backup online with modded 360 and suffer consequences? Cost: $0. It should be noted, I have a launch Xbox which the modder told me will eventually RROD anyways.
I know the decision may seem easy but since I might already be "flagged" I am wondering if I can put off getting a new machine until I do eventually get banned (if that's what the consensus is what will happen.)
Thanks for the help.

Are you sure, because both drives should be keyed for my xbox. If you know for sure, then I guess I really only have 2 options - buy a 2nd xbox or don't care.
The firmware is done to the drive, not the xbox right? So I was under the impression I could just connect the original DVD drive and ahve it work. Let me know if I am wrong.
That wont work, the console itself is banned not the drive, also dont forget about loosing the function of your HDD.Originally Posted by seanklowe
Get the second Xbox for online gaming. and unplug your flashed one from the interwebzz.
one for offline , one for online. Personaly i dont mind splashing £40 every now and again for a top game
My Xbox isn't banned atm. That's why I was asking if I can just swap drives now and wait out the ban wave.
Couldnt be for sure.
i mean theres alot of people that have been banned that are saying that they have flashed their drive and not even played a game yet.
My best advice. flip a coin Heads to put the non flashed drive in and tails to keep the flashed drive![]()
yea to be honest, if you played MW2 online already i think you may be flagged, I'm sure thats one of the key games they are scanning xboxs for, and in my mind option 1 and 3 kind of go hand in hand, if u say scew it, you can just play online and stuff until you get banned and than you can just go buy a new xbox with MW2 when the time comes, or you can buy the new xbox now (or a used one from Marlin) and play MW2 online with the legit copy, and in that case u may never get banned, making the purchase of the new xbox null.. i say just buy the new xbox with mw2 if u want to play it safe
