Its called security, yes its 2012 and every year more stuff gets hacked but every year security gets tighter for every possible hack there is a possible patch. Flashing drives has never been so easy just take what your being told as the truth and get on with it if you want technical info you will have to do your own research unless you have a specific question? Either way this forum is for basic drive flashing with a bit of Jtag and RGH on the side there are other forums for more technical discussions.

I want to be able to run custom code on my Xbox 360. This is a support thread about putting firmware (specifically iXtreme) on your 360 slim, I have a 360 slim and want to put firmware (specifically, iXtreme, non-specifically, anything that can run a custom loader) on it. My biggest problem right now is, I don't currently have the money to shell out on specialized hardware, and don't have any resistors or VIA 6421 SATA controllers handy... So, I was wondering if there was an easier way of getting the 360 to run iXtreme, i.e., loading it into a wrapper in the form of an offline update and saving it on the hard drive, or connecting the DVD drive to my PC, booting into Linux, and bashing the keys out of the drive and then writing the firmware. Or, if that isn't possible, and I'm screwed: Why? And what do I need to look into?

Again, I've looked around. I figured I didn't need to dive TOO deep if I can just ask people who are already familiar, it seemed like taking an entire college course on astrophysics, instead of asking your seemingly friendly neighbor who just so happens to be an rocket scientist, whether you should use four or six E-class model rocket engines to achieve escape velocity and launch your pet gerbil into orbit. FTR, I never did this as a child, just giving an example.

But I admit, sometimes I get wicked migraines and don't feel like navigating code, sometimes I do this stuff late at night, and sometimes I get lazy. Can't remember which it was at the time, so I'll go with lazy, since I usually remember mind-bending pain, and if I did this earlier in the day I'd likely be less tired, and therefore less lazy. Sorry if I've put you out any, but my reasoning seemed sound at the time.

What? No advanced security measures, like automatic unmounting, permanent red-ring, or self-modifying code that re-writes the hardware keys, if it doesn't get a constant "A-OK" from the 360? I wouldn't think they'd make it any easier to hack than the old Xbox, at least with that you had to boot the machine to get it to unlock the drive, then hotswap the IDE ribbon; else you had to have an old copy of MechWarrior and a Dex drive, or buy a modchip and a soldering iron... Still, while it wasn't as straightforward as one might hope for, at least you weren't limited to having to buy stuff.

The only thing stopping me thus far, has been a generalized understanding of, and respect for, the fact that there is usually a reason why people don't do things the supposed "easy way" already. That, and I've learned a few things about doing it your own way without asking the pros first, it usually ends in disaster when you go blindly into the fray and don't have any idea what you're doing. What has me interested, is a current necessity for, and curiosity towards, any and all alternatives.

I'll be milling about somewhere on the internet until I can either get up the money to afford/build a connectivity kit + probe, or find an alternative method, although I'm getting the feeling it'll be the former.

what the hell are you on about?

If you want to run unsigned code you need to RGH your xbox which has nothing to do with ixtreme, at least RGH is what it sounds like your after....also throwing around seemingly big words doesn't make you sound any smarter
