Thread: Question about updating LT to LT+ with Liteon drive

Lite-on drives need special hardware to get the key off of the drive. Specifically you either need a special probe (for v7 lite-ons) or you need to do some soldering and trace cutting (MRA hack). Hopefully whoever flashed your drive before gave you a copy of a .bin file with your drive key in it. If you already have your drive key then you don't need to follow the preliminary steps needed to read your key off of your drive. If you didn't receive anything from the person who flashed your drive, then according to the JungleFlasher tutorial you're going to need to do an MRA hack to get the key off of your drive.

Ok, I had no key given to me so i guess i have to find it myself.

if I purchase this from Ebay will that be everything I need to flash my drive? (not including my pc of course)

While the connectivity kit would be useful it is not necessary and can be found cheaper elsewhere. According to the JungleFlasher tutorial, the USB probe will be of no help to you at all. You will need to do an MRA hack in order to get your key. You should read the JungleFlasher tutorial. The MRA hack requires you to cut traces and do some soldering. If you are uncomfortable with soldering but still want to do this yourself then you might want to look into getting an LT Switch as it will make the soldering part much easier. Either way, you're going to need a soldering iron, some solder, and an xacto knife.

You also might want to look into buying a Via 6421 based SATA controller card for your PC, as not all PC chipsets are capable of picking up an Xbox DVD-Drive.

You will also need tools for opening you Xbox and your DVD drive. A screwdriver set that includes a Torx-10 bit and some mini-screwdrivers will do.

Psycoking post is correct, but please tell us which firmware version of lite-on you have so that we can better guide you in what you'll require for hardware.

Im not exactly sure how to tell which firmware of LO i have, how do i find that out?

So im going to have to Soldier some wires and all that, I guess that answers my original question because I thought maybe since it was already flashed then all the soldiering would be done already, (agiain noob lol) i'l take a look at the tutorial

To find out what version firmware your Lite-on drive has you will have to open up your Xbox. The firmware version is listed on the DVD-Drive's label.

If you are able to contact whoever flashed your drive the last time then you might want to ask them if they still have a copy of your OFW or dummy.bin. If they do and can send it to you that would save you a lot of trouble.

The person I bought the 360 from does not have the dummy.bin

I see there is a sticky on this forum for people who need there drive flashed. Im considering sending my drive to them and having them reflash it to LT+ If I send them my drive and ask for the .bin file when they flash it how would I go about updating FW when i need to with that file?

I live in the states, If you flashed it and gave me the key would I be able to get around soldering in the future and just use the connection kit to hook my drive up to my pc and flash it that way?
