Flashing my 360

Hello everyone, I'm new to the 360 hacking scene and let me tell you its much more different and sounds more complex then soft modding a wii, or heck even making a pandoras battery for my psp. xD
I'm not sure where to even look or begin, I was reading in order to play back ups you need to flash your dvd drive now here is where the questions begin, once I take out my dvd drive is there a wire on my 360 that gets connected as a replacement for the time being on my pc's tower? Or do I need to buy something separately? I believe my 360 dvd drive is a hitachi or benq I will be opening it up tomorrow, since I took off the face plate and in the hole there are no wires. Once I do the process must I keep my 360 dvd drive connected to my pc? I seen a video where someone left it plugged in and hoping thats not needed. Playing xbox live isn't really a concern since I can't with my xbox where its located the router is not near and its a old premium xbox so no wifi pick up. Is there any easier way since its a older xbox, like a soft mod and I don't need to get into the xbox? If not that, I'm fine with that just curious more fun for me and my dad to open it up. What are other methods to hacking your 360 to play back ups or all of them about flashing your dvd drive?

first off, its not recommended to power the xbox without the dvd drive connected. you should have the proper equipment. it is possible to use the xbox as power while flashing but it will flag your console and could lead to a ban (should you ever decide to go on live). if its a a hitachi or benq then its reletavely straight forward as long as your computer has a compatible sata. if not then a VIA6421 PCI-SATA card will be needed which can be picked up cheaply. if you arent going to power the flash with the xbox then you will need a CK3 (any type will do) and a spare molex or external psu and this will help with the power cycling.
assuming you havent updated to the latest dash then you can rgh your xbox to play backups straight from hdd and run unsigned code but this requires more equipment and some soldering ability... here is a guide

With this xbox I will most likely never be able to play on xbox live unless I buy a wireless adaptor which I don't really want. This xbox hasn't been on xbox live in such a long time, if not probably never. And I have about 2 other 360's that I can borrow or use in case I wanted to go online, they're family members who own it but don't use it at all and it just sit there collecting dust.
How would I know if my computer has a compatible sata? I was going to use this dell desktop tower from 2003-2005 don't remember the exact year, since its old and no one else will be willing to let me use there computer. Is there also a guide for doing what needs to be done to my pc tower?

yeah if its just a one time thing, like jayce says id just pay someone to do it for you. download an run CPU-Z and you can find out what sata chipset the computer has first and then it may be compatible, seriously though the jf tut will tell you everything once you find out what drive you have.

I think I will be going to someone on this forum to do it for me since he's in my area and I much rather go and bring it to someone then sending my console away since I'd have to pay for shipping.
