How to mod xbox 360 from scratch please help!!

I have just purchased an xbox, and i have been browsing on this site on how to mod sucessfully. But i am not sure what i need to modify with, either JungleFlasher or iXtreme. I know that i need to install firmware to play XGD3 games. I have a benq/Lite-on 83850 drive in my elite.

I was wondering if someone could help me in what steps i need to do first. I am quite knowledgable with computers and i have done modding before but 360s are just new to me, thanks in advance. Steve

well if u have the 8 series liteon you need to find out if its a version 1 or 2 plus it also depends on which dash u have as the most recent dash 13604 changes the firmware on all liteons to 02510c in which case you would need a probe. If you have a benq drive things are much simpler. Find out which drive you have first then i can assist you further

You need to modify the Firmware of the xbox 360 DVD Drive in order to play BackedUp Games. That's the only thing that is easily modifiable. You may start reading the Jungle Flasher Tutorial for the same.Try PMT Hack if you have a LiteOn Drive but if you have BenQ or Samsung then they are very easily modifiable.
Other mod that can be tried is the JTag Hack which allows modifying the NAND of xbox 360 which is a lot of work and also few conditions need to be met viz. Dashboard version should be <= 7371 etc.But once an xBox is jTagged you cannot take it online as it will get banned almost instantly.

Right, ok now I think its going to get complicated. Is it not possible to change the drive to a Samsung or benq one to make things easier?

Nope as u need the key from the liteon drive anyway so changing won't make any difference without the key. Only other way is getting the key is jtag and thats harder than just using the probe
