basically in order for an xbox to play games, the key on the drive must match the key on the motherboard or you'll just get a "Play DVD" message on all your games. if you don't want to risk flashing your original drive you can buy the same brand of drive and flash your key to it and put it in the xbox and use it....this said test but essentially the same thing....i did that on two of my xboxes.

if i have my key, i dont need to worry about this right?

as long as you have your key, that is correct...I back mine up in multiple locations. as long as you have your key, you can brick your drive and you would be ok just buy another...make sure anytime you flash whether its back to stock or to LT+ that you spoof the key to the fw you are flashing.

the "Drive verified" will only apply if you used that exact computer to get the key to start with, but like computergeek said, as long as you are 100% sure it is the correct key, that message is actually moot.

"spoof the key to the fw you are flashing"
what do you mean by that?
someone else sent me the key, isnt that okay?

when you are flashing, you have to load up your key in the source, the flash you are flashing to in the target, then hit the spoof button and they will put the key in the new fw, then you flash it....the tutorial explains that.

yea i read it, dont you always have to hit the spoof button?

the only way to know if that is the exact same key is to get it off your drive yourself -

spoof key -



hit that button once both fw's are loaded up in your source and target - that transfer's your key over from the source to the target fw - which will allow you to play all your games

yes...you ALWAYS spoof your key to whatever firmware you are flashing to before you flash it.
