Hitachi with IX 1.51 wont load discs

Postby paintballer4lfe » Wed Dec 02, 2009 8:22 pm

ok, i recently flashed my hitachi GDR-3120L 0078FK, i droped the firmware for hitachi drives into the firmware folder, however i dont think i ever used the firmware from the folder, i have a laptop so i used a SATA to USB, it worked fine, but my drive wont read ANY discs, regualr discs that i baught, the activate ISO disc, and a backup of one of my paid discs, i HAVE port IO 32 installed, but when i open jungle flasher it doesnt let me pick port IO to use, i recorded a video of my xbox, link is bellow.

How i flashed my drive[after installing pory IO]:
1. put into mode b
2. booted up XP SP3
3. opened jungle flasher
4. went to hitachi tab
5. dumped original FW
6. clicked flash ixtreme, saved the FW from that in diffrent folder.
7. successfully flashed [thats what it said on output box]
8. closed jungle flasher
9. turned xbox off
10. plugged cable back into xbox [SATA to xbox board]
11. powered on drive WITH activate.iso disc in the drive.
THEN NOTHING WORKS!

i tried re-flashing, restored original FW, then flashed, heres output:
(i accidently forgot to select original FW the first couple times, the last try was the one with the original FW)
Code: Select all

i would say that the flash went good . also you do not need the activate.iso with the hitachi. make sure you using vervatim dvd+dl nothing else would read in my hiatchi drive iwould say put the 1.51 on there and make sure your using the proper blanks and the layer break is set right

alright, i was pretty sure the flash went fine, but yea im using verbatim DVD+R DL, i use ImgBurn, i set the layer breaks for DL writing manually set as: 1913760

but thats all i have configured to burn, is it normall when it wont play actuall games?

I had the same problem when I switched the drive with a new one. Everything checked out, yet it played the DVD instead of the game. I solved this by spoofing the new drive to look like the old drive, using the old drive key. The procedure for this is all in the jungle flasher user guide. BTW my old drive was the 0047DJ and the new one is a 0059DJ.

Hope it helps.

if it wont play originals its a bad flash if it wont play backups its either a bad write or bad dvd

use memorex DVD+R DL only thing that worked on my hitachi

I think the flash went bad too. The lack of com ports caught my eye. If i was you, I would go into system settings and check your com port is ok. You may want to disable any shown, reboot then enable and try again. Also, it showed the original disc as a dvd but didn't see the dvd dual layer. In my opinion its likely your laser is too weak to see it so either needs the power boosting (lower resistance on the calibration pot)or replacing. Can't remember if the laser is the same as the benq or the sammy but think its the sammy SF-HD63 (check ebay)

Hope this helps and remember to follow the jungleflasher pdf word for word. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH COS YOU ARE YOUNG AND CUT CORNERS!

im young but im not cutting corners, im makeing do with what i have, i literally juse replaced the drive, im pretty sure the laser is fine, im also sure that im not lacking com ports, because i had accouple open, i think its just because im using a laptop through a SATA to USB, thankfully im building a computer in accouple days, and ill just run a SATA line into the motherboard so i dont have to use the USB to SATA adapter, that will probly help and maybe fix it.
