When you open the drive up you will see the laser.
Unclip the ribbon from the back of the laser.
Is this the definition of irony?

read a couple of posts elsewhere where people had a problem with their lite-on laser not reading after flasing. their fix was to push the laser forward a bit (maybe a third of the way????) putting the drive back together and testing a game/film. it said it took a few seconds to read then no problems after. just another fix maybe to throw in the ring before payin for a new laser?

never had the problem myself and i've flashed 5 lite-ons. had 1 with the erase freeze. re-started jf clicked the id tab and carried on from there. never had to do the dos thing(don't know how, never looked). if people have had no problems disconnecting the laser, flashing the 360 then re-fitting the laser it can't harm doin this as well.

Removing the laser ribbon is a precautionary measure.
I've never had one myself before I started removing the ribbon.
However I've had 3 to fix that did have the bricked laser problem.
If removing the ribbon means I'll never get a bricked laser, I'll spend the 30 seconds it takes to remove it.
It's entirely up to you if you want to do it.

How exactly do you remove the ribbon. Is it a simple snap or so?

If you look at the ribbon going into the laser housing, you'll see a small shoulder on each side.
Gently pull each side outwards & the ribbon will easily pull out.

Fly explained it for me, but yeah those little shoulders and to put it back the shoulder have to be pulled up, you then put the ribbon all the wall in and pull the shoulder tab down,( i hope you get what im trying to say)
