Flashing red lights after flashing hitachi with ixtreme 1.51

Postby Anff87 » Fri Dec 04, 2009 8:20 pm

I have an hitachi, recently flashed to ixtreme 1.51. At first it didn't read discs now it does. The problem is I can play a game for about 2 or 3 minutes and then the xbox powers off and the top left and bottom left lights start flashing red.... Can anybody identify this?

I've tried to reflash but I can't seem to get my drive into mode b by doing the eject tray power off method...

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Not sure but isn't that the over heating lights or are they the other side just to make sure check your fans are working.

Have you tried this

Mode B can be easily achieved on a pre-flashed Hitachi
Ensure SATA cable connected to pc!
This is done by powering on the drive with the tray fully open

1. Eject the drive
2. Pull the power cable from the rear of the DVD-Rom
3. Plug cable back in (ensuring correct orientation of plug)
4. The drive tray will close (if pre-flashed)
5. Check that it takes 2 presses to eject and 2 or 3 to close.

2 red lights means you need to replace the thermal compound on the heatsinks cos it has dried out and perished and check BOTH the fans work whilst the lid is off for approx 1 minute. I recommend arctic silver ceramique thermal compound.

Thanks for the help guys, guess I'll start looking for sone tutorials on how to do this.... Is it very difficult?

The eject trick used to work to get the drive into mode b before I flashed but now it doesn't work... Any other methods to get it into mode b?

Cheers

Try using the slax cd method, almost always works.

Well after doing some research I saw on other places that the two flashing lights could be caused by tightening the screws to hard! So loosened the screws put the case back together and BAM the lights were gone! So far the fan isn't as loud as it was and console hasn't frozen up since sunday, even after playing hours of MW 2!

Thought thus might be helpful to someone who maybe gets the flashing lights after flashing and putting case back together.

Thanks to everyone for the advice!
