  • xbox 360 burn issue / Sony Optiarc 5280-cb-plus / Verbatim DVD+R DL / abgx360

    Hi All,

I followed what was described in the forums and tried the following:
    1. Verified 2 game iso's through abgx360, stealth check, autofix (level 3) - no errors, all green
    2. Burnt the image through ImageBurn onto verbatim dvd+r azo DL, with default settings, at speed 4x

Everything worked well, just that when I put it in xbox 360 console, and select 'play game' it does not play. If I select game details, it throws error code 8c320**. I have tried different speed settings so far - 2.4x and 4x. Also had manually set the layer value (from the .dvd file) as well as let it compute optimal.

Still I am not able to play this game. Any help will be highly appreciated.

I missed to mention that I have Sony Optiarc inside a Vantec NexStar NST-530S3-BK, and have a usb 3.0 cable connected to my laptop (which has just USB 2.0). Would this enclosure be causing the issue?

After the game was burnt, I verified that through abgx360 once again, and it was still green.

I would try running the disk through Nero discspeed and finding out the quality of the burn

          Firmware version is: 2.0.16547.0

I just realized that ImgBurn does not say it is CB PLUS. I read in other threads that amazon ships the wrong one instead of CB Plus. Could this be the issue?

At 8x, the quality score from Discspeed test was also: 82 - which seems lower. Are these related?

You should be burning the disk at x4 and same for Nero discspeed should be x4 as that the speed your xbox drive is reading the disk.

Any score above 80 shouldn't cause any issues really.

As for the dvd writer not saying cb plus i would imagine it would but cant comment on it as i don't own one.

Guess you could look at the box it came in or open up the pc/caddy and see what the label says as that would deffo say plus on it if it is.

Thanks Xman once again for the quick response. I checked the label on the drive and it says AD-5280S [-CB]R, and it does not appear to be CB-PLUS.

I was not able to change the speed indicator on Discspeed, it had 8x, 5x, 6x as the only options. Here are the results from 5x test:

              General Information
              Drive: Optiarc DVD RW AD-5280S

I just contacted Amazon and they promised to send a replacement. Am hoping it will be the right product this time.

Tbh the r might stand for robot which is also compatible and with it reading the disc at 8.7 this might be the case but in gonna have to let some one who own either drive to confirm this.

When on discspeed once the media is in where you can select read speed there should be a refresh button ( just to the right) click that and it should autoload the speed to x4 and will also say the media info above the speed select.

Hi Xman85, I do not see 4x there, tried both 8x and max speed, both had decent results. Abgx360 also certified the burn is good, just do not understand why xbox is not playing the game. This is even with the replacement I received from amazon.

@All - any help will be highly appreciated.. I am just going crazy why the burns are not working..

Hmmmm strange that x4 is not there

You should check at close to x4 as possible think a lower speed test would be better than say max speed

Just out of curiosity What scores did you get with x8 and max?

Tbh its best someone with the drive to give a guide through this from what i have heard it should just load imgburn and select the speed and it should be good burns.

So have you got the cb plus now?

With max setting, the score was 83 or so. With 8x, it was around 86 or so. I dont remember neither was more than 90.
Interesting fact was that CB-PLUS is not labeled as CB-Plus . I read through other threads, and it appears that all of them have [-CB] R which is essentially CB-PLUS. If the drive reading in ImgBurn says 1.Z8 then it is CB-Plus. It was a good learning

Has anyone used optiarc cb-plus and can provide any help? (I also suspect it could be my xbox console itself, but it plays another game dvd properly), not the ones which I burn

You've got an issue with your PC if you're not getting a good burn with the sony. I would consider a reformat and reinstall of windows, or connect the drive directly to the PC, not some enclosure. You can also attempt a pot tweak to see if your laser will pick up the game as is.

Thanks Bigboss, I too suspect the external enclosure thing, but just the fact that abgx360 certifies 'the burn was good' is intriguing.

I changed just the write settings to 4x. Earlier tried 2.4x too. Did not change any other setting. Also tried disabling "Enable Burn Proof", and enabled "OPC before write". Didn't help either.
