LOL christ! in those videos both ppl refer to the laser pot settings as "little knobs" no offense but the only little knobs i see are the ones fooling around with stuff they have no knowledge of! messing with the laser pot settings is one of the fastest sure fire ways to burn out your laser completely! If you're prepared to do that then you may as well just buy a new drive now and be done with it!

The pot settings require you to have the correct tool and knowledge to alter them!

I'm sure a pro on here will confirm that messing with these is generally a bad idea.

As long as you actually give a crap about your box and not just go "ah, whatever, I'll just let someone else do it" then pot tweaking and other stuff like flashing etc. isn't that hard.

As long as you use a multimeter, make sure you don't go below 3.2Kohm (lower in increments of .2-.5Kohm), and calibrate the DVD pot, you'll be fine.

Awful attempt at a tutorial! the author neglects to mention the POT tweak he shows is for a liteon, for samsungs its not the one he points to. Also he really needs to cut his long feminine nails or at least remove the visible yaky cak trapped up-in em..

I totaly agree...I have picked up an xbox with a Lite-On drive and I was a little scared flashing it, since it involved the probe and opening up my drive.
But after reading, watch movies, reading more and watching the same movies over and over again I managed to grow the B*LLZ and do it myself.
                  It wasn't that hard actually.
Same goes for the Hitachi drive in the premium I picked up just a week ago. loadz of reading and watching video tuts gave me confidence (and the fact that I did a sammy myself and my iHAS burner, and the KREON drive back in the dayz...and loadz of other stuff.

as long as you have faith, confidence and the right tools and don't rush things...you'll be fine (mostly).
The guy in the vid clearly doesn't know jack on electronics and what he's doing....I had the Hitachi drive giving me probs on XDG3 backups so I decided just to swap the drive instead of pot-tweaking it.
Not that I don't dare to try, but like you guys said....it will kill the laser faster.
