iXtreme 1.6 Firmware is for flashing the Xbox 360 DVD Drive. The purpose of flashing the drive is to allow Backups to be played. What are backups you might ask?
Backups are a duplicate copy of a Xbox 360 game. They are burned on Dual Layer DVD's, which requires the use of a Dual Layer Burner as well.
With the latest iXtreme Firmware, currently version 1.6 for the LiteOn, BenQ and Samsung drives, all backups are required to be stealth. However, their is the option to bypass the security scan, with the use of Activate.iso, which is included with iXtreme 1.6 Firmware.
Stealth Firmware in short, tricks the console into thinking the game is a real official copy, and thus, will allow you to play the game. Now theirs are risk involved when flashing your drive.
First, theirs always the possibility of getting banned on Live. Though with the current release of iXtreme 1.6, it makes it much harder to allow yourself to get caught. Playing backups that you've received before they are released is a way in getting banned.
If you play a game that is not stealth, and go on live, is another way of getting caught.
So how do i flash my drive? I want in!
Flashing your drive requires you voiding the Warranty on your Xbox 360. You'll be required to take apart you console, which will allow you to get access to the 360 DVD drive. Now their are 4 types of drives out their you might run across, depending on how old the Xbox is your trying to flash.
There are four types of Xbox 360 Drives.
- Hitachi
Samsung
BenQ
LiteOn
Now out of all 4 of them, the LiteOn drive is typically the hardest to flash. Dumping the key requires the use of a Connectivity Kit. I use the CK3 Connectivity kit with the addon probe.
Flashing the Samsung, BenQ, and Hitachi's are typically, a fairly easy process. Something that is shared among of 4 of them, is the use of a Key. Their is a key that is on the firmware, for each drive, that matches the console. If these keys don't match, you loose your gaming platform, and now have a DVD player.
