LoL, with the PS1 you had to swap or mod chip. The Dreamcast was discontinued cause you could literally burn a backup and put it in the system and play.
i read that M$ dont want to use bluray drives on next system so they are looking into cloud storage (or similair ) and then do away with the drive altogether.Thats just speculation but its a way they could go
with all the effort ms have been putting into the security of the 360 lately what with xgd3 disks and blocking rgh in the latest dash makes me wonder just how close the next xbox really is
Most likely they will go the way of the PSvita, "game cards" and downloadble games via xbox live to prevent piracy, they wont really go using the blu-ray format since they would have to pay royalties to sony since they own the patents, cloud storing has been used since the past two updates but in this case to for saved files, it wont be used due to the fact that to play full game would required extremely high bandwidth which in many reagions is hard to come by. As the gpu its all speculations due to the fact that game consoles used custom made chips to work with the cpu architecture
nice to hear that it would be so much more powerful and the cloud news is fascinating......and it will be outdated with the 6000 series GPU cause the 8000 is gonna be released in first half of the next year.......so it will be absurd to have a system that is outdated at its launch.......

I recon there will be the option to stream from the cloud, as well as downloading from marketplace. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't get rid of the drive. As for the console, I don't think it will be released till at least 2014. As with all consoles, there will no doubt be a way to perform something such as a JTAG etc.
